Welcome to this web site, where you can
view examples of some of my work.

I am Robert Lewin and I have been
designing and making furniture for over 25 years. My workshop
is based in the Cotswolds about 6 miles from Burford.
I have a
passion for wood and produce stylish, unique and beautifully
hand-crafted furniture.
My designs are functional, with simple
lines, fine detailing and use sympathetic timber selection to
make contemporary hardwood furniture.
I mostly use British and North American
hardwoods
and work exclusively with timber from
sustainable forests,
locally sourced whenever
possible. Sometimes I
include sustainable exotics for detailing. Natural oil and wax
finishes are used to bring out the natural beauty of the wood.
My wife Jayne and I also own and run Burford
Woodcraft a gallery specialising in selling
contemporary furniture and other woodwork made in Britain. My
work and that of over 90 other craftsmen is displayed at Burford
Woodcraft.
While most of my furniture is made to
commission
for
private clients, I also make one-off and limited edition pieces
for sale
through
the gallery.
Three pieces of my work can also be seen
at 'A
Celebration of Craftmanship and Design' an
annual exhibition which brings together some of Britain's
leading exponents of bespoke, designer-made furniture.

The process to commission a piece of
Furniture begins with a free, informal consultation,
I will discuss your requirements (purpose
of the piece, dimensions, surroundings, personal taste etc) and
any ideas you may have by way of design preferences and the
choice of wood.
I will then produce
drawings and wood samples for you.
At this stage alterations to the design or size are possible if
required. Once
the design has been finalised and materials have been agreed, I
will require a deposit
(usually
twenty-five per cent of the total cost)
to secure a place in
my timetable. The balance will then be payable upon completion
and delivery of the piece.
